each full length wall stud fastened to the top plate using dog nail ,must be 25mm into top plate.
chiseled small groove before nailing to achieve flush finish

lumberlock plates used to fasten trusses to wall frames

13/03/2011

erected roof trusses at 845 spacings with a temporary brace beside the apex, fastened to the wall frames with two 100mm nails each side

string line running length of the house, used to line the center of each truss to ensure they are all in the correct/same position.

dodgy block, used to measure the straightness of wall, joist etc.here we are using a dodgy block to straighten the bottom plate. Its basically a string-line with a block between the string and material being straightened .the blocks must be the same size as these are the measure of straightness.we measure how straight it is by sliding another block between string and material straightness is achieved when the block fits perfectly between sring and material.

wall frames

erected external wall frames

8x2 lintel, greater the span of lintel bigger the sg rating.

wall bracing

finished floor and wall frames erected ,two braces in front to temporarily hold external wall frames in place, while we construct remaining frames.
we cut particleboard 8mm in rather then flush with the boundary joist.
In industry this would usually be flush with the boundary joist because the roof would be on within two days, since we take a little longer we make this cut to compensate for swelling.

20mm flooring paricle board laid and nailed down, with glue around the edges for extra strength ,nailed at 200mm spacings and 150mm for intermediate joists.

siasalation paper is laid to help prevent moisture coming up through the the floor, also acts as a form of insulation, sag is put in between the joists to keep moisture below joists

profiles

this shows the building profiles ,braced with pegs to keep it firmly in pace so the FFl measurement stays the same, the batter boards are nailed to the profile at the finished floor level,to find th FFL we use a dumpy level.
We level out the dumpy and look at each profile and use a stick with our datum height on it ,once this mark is lined up with the cross hairs in the level, the bottom of that stick is marked on the profile and that is our finished floor level.

foundations

today was all practical,a long day down on the site .today we started of where we finished up yesterday,we started by re adjusting our string lines and bracing our profiles we also had to re shoot some of the levels on the dumpy.today was a hardout ,with a lot of work to be done,as a class we laminated our bearers which was fun,we also put up and braced our jack studs .

building site

today our class was on the building site preparing the grounds for construction,we started with a quick tidy up ,clearing rubbish,de nailing boards, and other general preparations.
After the break we split into groups and started doing our profiles and finished the day by putting batter boards up.

profiles

6/4/11 we sat our hliti license hopefully we all get it.
We also done a profiling excercise, which was challenging but fun, first we shot our datum point which was 2389.we then minused that by 1512 to give us our FFL .After that we marked the corners of our house out, once we figured that out we then marked out where our profiles would go.once the profiles were up we nailed some batter boards up to the height of our FFL.we had our level all we had left to do wwas run a string line to give the outline of the house

the second half of our day we completed our site safe training with Colin o'Gorman, hopefully we all achieved.site safe was a bit of an eye opener for me to the real dangers that are involved in the building industry.

Yesterday we put our legs through the thicknesser and brought them down to 90 x20.
We then started marking out the angles for the legs to join to the base .once the angles were marked correctly we cut them, the angle was 1:3 ,once we finished those we marked the feet out at the same 1:3 angle.
